Every October, Hospice Care Week shines a spotlight on the vital role hospices play at the heart of our communities.
Although many people in Milton Keynes will know that Willen Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care, they might not realise that this includes a wide range of therapeutic and wellbeing support for patients and carers.
Working closely with NHS colleagues, GPs, hospitals and community health partners across the city, Willen Hospice plays an important role in supporting people to live well, with joined-up care that meets individual needs.
This week we’re sharing the breadth of our services, the stories of those we support, and the incredible contributions of people like you.
Celebrating our Willen Hospice Community
Here in Milton Keynes, we are continually inspired by the incredible generosity, compassion, and unwavering commitment of our local community. Time and time again, our supporters go above and beyond to ensure that we can continue providing vital hospice care to those who need it most.
Whether it’s through donating pre-loved items to our charity shops, organising or taking part in fundraising or offering your time, skills, and energy as a volunteer. Every act of support makes a meaningful difference.
Your support helps more than you think
This year’s theme, “More Than You Think” shines a light on the often unseen but hugely impactful work carried out by hospices like Willen.
At Willen Hospice, our Therapeutic and Wellbeing Services offer social, emotional, physical, and psychological support for patients and their families. From counselling and complementary therapies to group activities and rehabilitation, these services help people live as well as they can, for as long as they can, addressing the whole person, not just their medical needs. This week, we’ll be sharing how we are here for Milton Keynes in more ways than many people realise.
Our hospice teams deliver high-quality palliative and end-of-life care, not just at the Hospice but out in the community and in people’s homes. They work every day to help people make the most of the time they have left, to live well.
Hospice Care beyond the building
As many of you will have learnt, over the last year 88% of our patients were cared for in their own homes by Willen at Home. That’s 3,136 visits that our team have made to check in on patients and provide holistic care.
Nationally, every year, community nursing teams and volunteers make around 1.4 million visits to people in their homes, helping them stay where they feel most comfortable, surrounded by familiarity and bringing care directly to the heart of communities.
These numbers show the scale and impact of hospice care, but they also reveal how important your support is.
During Hospice Care Week 2025, we’re celebrating everything our dedicated Willen Hospice team does to help people live well, no matter how much time they have left.
