Make a Will month

Write or update your Will with Willen Hospice.

An important job we often put off

Write your Will

Writing a Will is one of the most important things you can do, that’s why we run ‘Make a Will Month’. During  October, we partner up with local solicitors who will write or update your Will* in return for a donation. Solicitors will suggest a donation amount to Willen Hospice, which is usually half the cost of their usual service charge. Make an enquiry today by completing this short form below.

Legacy giving is truly an act of love and generosity that extends far beyond one’s lifetime.

We are currently one of the most underfunded Hospices in the UK, receiving only 12.7% of ongoing funding from the NHS. You may be even more surprised to read that our vital Willen at Home service, which cares for local patients in their own homes, costs us £1.4 million each year and receives no funding at all – every penny comes from charitable donations.

By leaving a gift in your Will to Willen Hospice, you are ensuring a legacy of love, care, and support for those in need within our community for generations to come. While you do not have to include a gift in your Will to use our will-writing service, we do hope it’s something you will consider.

*A basic Will only, to be defined by the solicitor.

How should I go about writing a Will?

Our guide to drafting your Will with confidence

Below are some useful steps to help you when writing or updating your Will:

Complete the short enquiry form below and we’ll send you a list of  participating solicitors and Will writers including a Gift In Wills Guide, if requested on the form.

Select a participating solicitor from the list  and make an appointment during May or October. All the advisors listed are Legacy Partners, trusted local solicitors who support Willen Hospice with the important work that we do.

Make a list of everything you own, such as the value of your house, car, savings, jewellery, stocks and shares. Then make a list of what you owe; overdrafts, bank loans or other debts. This is the time to appoint a trusted friend or family member to be your executor (someone who will make sure your wishes are carried out).

You do not have to tell us of your decision, but we would love to hear from you if you decide to leave a gift. It helps us to plan for the future and, of course, we would like to say thank you. This is not compulsory and we will always respect and honour your privacy.

Terms and Conditions
You must be aged 18 or over to use the service. There are limited face-to-face Will-writing appointments with the participating Solicitors and Will-writing professionals during this scheme; these are on a first come first serve basis only. Your solicitor/Will-writer may provide Willen Hospice with your name, and address/email/telephone for the purpose of managing the administration of the scheme (please note details of the contents of your Will and any other named beneficiaries will not be shared with us and will remain confidential between you and your Solicitor/Will writer). Please note: The Solicitor and/or Will writer has control of and is responsible for preparing your Will. Willen Hospice staff cannot assist you with Will Writing or provide any legal advice.

Participating solicitors

Participating solicitors will waive their fees for writing or updating a Will in lieu of a donation to Willen Hospice. Solicitors will advise on the amount, which is usually half the cost they would normally charge for their services.
