Practical support for loved ones
We understand that caring for someone with a life-limiting illness can be isolating and may affect your wellbeing. We offer a range of practical ways that we can help support you too.
What is a carer?
Time for you
There are many emotional challenges to being a carer. It’s often lonely and exhausting, and aspects of your life and relationships may change. You might find it difficult to see your caring role as separate from the relationship you have with the person you care for. Within our Living Well programme we provide support groups for carers who’d like to meet others facing similar challenges. These groups offer a safe and welcoming opportunity to share experiences, receive peer support and foster a sense of community.
What may help you to support a loved one
Navigating healthcare accessing benefits and planning ahead whilst supporting a family member or friend who is ill can be confusing and frustrating. If the person you’re caring for is being looked after by the Hospice, our Social Care team can help you find the right services and provide support for both you and your loved ones.
You may have questions like:
Are there any benefits or financial support that we’re eligible for?
What happens if my loved one can no longer be cared for by the Hospice?
How can we access care support at home, and respite care?
If looking after my loved one at home isn’t possible, what nursing home options are available and could we get help to fund this?
How do I tell children and young people within the family what’s happening?
How can I plan now for the future?
