Frequently asked questions

Fundraising can get complicated at times, so we’ve detailed some guidelines to help to help make sure your activities are legal and follow UK fundraising regulations.

We’ve partnered with a number of online fundraising platforms to give you as much choice as possible when it comes to raising money in aid of Willen Hospice. Registering with a recognised platform is crucial as it helps to maximise your efforts, collect Gift Aid on our behalf and safeguard the money you raise.

  • Enthuse is our preferred platform for general donations and fundraising. If you participate in any of our major events such as the Midnight Moo and some large national events like the London Marathon you will automatically have a fundraising page setup for you. You can also create a fundraising page for any event of your own by completing the signup form.
    – If you are a community group putting on an event please use the dedicated community fundraising signup page.
  • MuchLoved is our preferred platform for memorial pages and tributes to loved ones. It provides you with a dedicated page that never closes, to collect thoughts, photos, donations in memory and circulate information with regards to funeral arrangements.
  • JustGiving is one of the biggest fundraising platforms in the UK and widely recognised, simply click here to create a page.
  • Facebook also now provides fundraising pages and this can be a great option when it comes to sharing news, updates and progress on your fundraising activity. Simply visit Facebook Fundraisers, choose Select Charity and search for Willen Hospice.
  • GiveAsYouLive is a useful platform for those occasions where you may wish to fundraise for another charity in conjunction with Willen Hospice, as it will allow to you split the proceeds. Click here to create a fundraising page.

If you would like to raise funds via a platform you don’t see listed here, please contact supportercare@willen-hospice.org.uk and we’d be happy to assist you with further details of how to do so.

If you’re playing music and/or selling alcohol you will need a Temporary Event Notice, please make sure you have the right licence. These cost £21 and are available from your local council. Make sure you submit your application at least 10 days before your event to avoid any delays. We kindly ask that you don’t smoke or drink alcohol while wearing clothing with our charity branding.

For more information on Temporary Event Notice (TEN) visit Temporary Events Notice (England and Wales) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

If plans for your event include holding a raffle, you don’t require a licence if the tickets are only being sold during the event. If, however, you’re selling tickets in advance then it gets more complicated. Please check the latest regulations with the Gambling Commission at https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/

If your plans involve collecting money in a pot or bucket on the street or in a public place (eg. Local high streets, parks) you’ll need a permit to do so this from the local authority. You can, however, collect on private land (eg Supermarkets, train stations, local companies) with the permission of the landowner.

When holding a bucket/pot we ask that you smile your biggest smile, ensure you’re polite but please don’t shake the bucket or ask for money.

Bucket collectors should remain stationary unless in a procession and if one of your collectors is under 16, they must be accompanied by an adult.

Buckets must be sealed and should clearly show the the Willen Hospice name. It’s easy to order your Willen Hospice branded buckets by completing this short form here.

If you are planning to bake for Willen and have a cake sale in a public place you’ll need to obtain a permit from the local authority. It’s good practice to list your cake ingredients, especially the allergens.

We recommend you follow basic Food Safety here: https://www.food.gov.uk/food-safety including refrigeration, and wearing gloves when handling food and just make sure anyone handling food isn’t also handing cash.

Happy baking!
