Lymphoedema clinic
Our Lymphoedema service provides holistic and personalised care for patients who have this lifelong condition, helping them to manage their swelling as best possible.
Lymphoedema management
We treat patients who have developed a swelling either secondary to cancer or its treatments, or as part of a palliative diagnosis. We also accept patients with a confirmed diagnosis of primary lymphoedema from St George’s University Hospital NHS Trust Lymphoedema/Dermatology Service.
If you meet the criteria to be treated by our team, you’ll need to be referred to us by your GP or another healthcare professional. By monitoring and treating your swelling, we can help you learn how to look after it at home, reduce the risk of infection and reduce any discomfort you might be experiencing.
You may either visit the Hospice for treatment from our specialist lymphoedema nurses, who are members of the British Lymphology Society, or they may be able to come to your home if you’re housebound. They might also refer you to other services for support with your care.
Lymphoedema management and treatment varies for each patient, but may include:
The use of specialist compression garments
Simple lymphatic drainage, which can be done by the patient or a loved one at home
Advice about skin care
Manual lymphatic drainage (medical massage) where required
Lymphatic taping
Specialist lymphoedema bandaging
