Art therapy for children
When a loved family member becomes unwell, is too sad to talk or is at the end of their life, it can be difficult for children and young people to express how they’re feeling.
Helping children express their feelings
Our Art therapy service offers a safe, confidential space for children who have or had a loved one in the care of the Hospice to create art that helps them understand their thoughts, feelings and behaviours during this time. Our Art Psychotherapist guides the child in using a range of art materials, such as paint, clay and sand, while offering support and a listening ear.
Some children are invited to take part in a group session and others benefit more from seeing the art therapist on their own. At the end of each session, there’s an opportunity for the child to share what they’ve created with the therapist or the rest of the group.
By making images and exploring these with the art therapist, children and young people can make sense of any confusing feelings, and over time, feel better able to cope and more confident in sharing their thoughts and feelings with friends and family. Our Art therapy service is made possible by Milton Keynes Community Foundation during 2025/26.
Thanks to its donors, we are able to support local children and young people experiencing the loss of a loved one.
