Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy helps you build on or maintain your physical strength and activity levels so that you can be more independent, have better wellbeing and optimise your quality of life.

Helping you to stay active

When diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, it can be hard to know how much or what types of physical activity you should be doing, and how to negotiate some of the difficulties you may come across.

Physiotherapy can help with some of the symptoms of a condition, such as breathlessness, pain and reduced strength. It can also help you maximise or maintain your mobility and improve your confidence, alongside many more benefits.

By finding out what’s important to you, our physiotherapists will work with you and your loved ones to empower you to work towards your goals. This could be in the form of a personalised exercise plan, education, advice and individual or group sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Our Physiotherapy service is available to patients staying in our In-Patient Unit and those who are being cared for at home by our Willen at Home team. You can speak to a member of our staff to ask to be referred for physiotherapy if this hasn’t already been suggested to you.

If you’re not currently under the Hospice’s care but you live in the Milton Keynes area, you can ask a healthcare professional, such as your GP or district nurse, to refer you to our Living Well programme, which includes our Physiotherapy service.

Evidence shows that any level of activity is of benefit, and in fact can improve fatigue and breathlessness. However, for the best outcomes important to find a balance between and rest.
Increasing levels doesn’t necessarily mean vigorous exercise. You may want to go for a short walk or simply climb the stairs. Even things like doing the washing or hoovering count as activity.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide physiotherapy at home. However, we can see you at our Wellbeing Centre. If you’re unable to get to the Wellbeing Centre, the local community therapy teams – Home 1st Reablement may be able to help you.
