Specsavers in Milton Keynes have been sponsoring the Willen Hospice Midnight Moo for eight years running. Store Manager, Amber Rouse shared with us why it’s important to enter a Specsavers’ team, what she enjoys most about the event, and the importance of giving back to the local community.
“As Specsavers are sponsoring the event, it’s really good to always have a team and make sure we’re doing our part for it as well. We do a lot of fundraising events in store. So at the moment we’ve got a ‘Guess the nose pads in the jar’ game, a kid’s colouring competition and we’re also planning a quiz night just before the event.
“We are like a locally run business, even though we operate under the national Specsavers. We like to give back to the community and Willen is a big part of that. As soon as the Midnight Moo is announced, we put a post on Teams to say ‘this is what’s happening, does anyone want to take part?’ I tend to go around and tell people my stories of the Midnight Moo, especially like the underpass disco and just about how much of a fun event it is and why it’s important to raise money for the Hospice.
“My most favourite part of the Midnight Moo is probably actually doing the walk. There’s loads of people doing it as well that bring a lot of energy. The marshals are always really good and there are different things at different miles. It’s a really good way to count down the miles as you’re doing it. The bit beforehand is great as well when you’ve got everyone energising. You’re doing your warm ups and everything like that, which is a lot of fun. My least favourite bit is probably the day after, recovering. You don’t really feel it until you stop because everyone is motivating you along the way which is really helpful!”
We would like to thank Specsavers MK for their continued support, and we look forward to seeing the team on the night. There’s still time to join the herd! Sign up at Middleton Hall, centre:mk on Friday 20 June.
