Willen Hospice is excited to announce that any donations made towards our life-changing care this week will be doubled, thanks to the Big Give Christmas Challenge – the UK’s largest online matched-funding campaign.
From midday on Tuesday 2 December until midday Tuesday 9 December*, any money given to Willen Hospice through the Big Give website will be doubled, at no extra cost to supporters.
We aim to raise £32,500, which will be matched by funders to become an amazing £65,000. This much-needed total will help fund expert palliative and end-of-life care for local people affected by a life-limiting illness.
As a registered charity, the hospice needs to raise a staggering £9.6 million every year to continuing providing its care for those in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. The Big Give Christmas Challenge, coupled with the generosity of the local community, will help make double the difference for local patients and their families this Christmas.
Patients just like Michelle, who was staying in the hospice’s In-Patient Unit last Christmas.
Michelle’s mum, Amanda, says,
“It’s terrible losing a child at any age, but I’ve lost a child who was 42 – a mum of three children who are grieving. And Michelle lost her future. She was wanting to be a nanna to her grandchildren.
“Because of Willen Hospice, Michelle had a peaceful death. She was pain-free. The Hospice gave Michelle and our family quality time to tie up loose ends and to say goodbye. We met wonderful staff and volunteers there. I can’t thank them enough for what they did for us. We felt so looked after, and I know that none of it would have been possible without the amazing support the Hospice receives from the local community. We owe Willen and its supporters an awful lot.”
The matched funding available through the Big Give has been made possible thanks to generous pledgers and foundations. Willen Hospice would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated to their Christmas appeal so far.
*Donations will be doubled until midday Tuesday 9 December or until the matched funding pot runs out. Find out more about matched giving here.
